DON JULIO SHARES HIS LOVE FOR HIP-HOP AND WHAT KEEPS HIM SO PASSIONATE ABOUT THE ART OF MAKING MUSIC.

WORDS BY RICK SCOTCH
Hip-Hop is culture. Hip-Hop is personal. Hip-Hop is art. Hip-Hop is what Julio Ortega aka Don Julio passionately creates. He has been embracing the art of making hip-hop music since he was 15 years old.

Don Julio grew up in various cities throughout the California Bay Area. The art of making music first came to him in the form of being a rapper. He saw rap as a way to verbalize his emotions, experiences and thoughts through words. What he found as a rapper was the love of making sounds. Once he decided to make his first record, he found himself "addicted like crack" to the art of making beats.

"

To teach the younger generation what do with this music. It's a powerful thing we do for people and what we do for kids. We're talking to them.

Music has always been his therapeutic way to take whatever he was feeling and putting those emotions back into his music. It was a way for him to step out of reality. Making blocks of sound "is a way to paint a picture" he says. He loves the power a beat can do to someone's mood. It can make you "happy, sad, ready to go to a club or just feeling good."

Beyond Don Julio's musical mind, you will find a person who is passionate about the culture of hip-hop. It's what defines who he is. He sees music as a way to be a positive influence on the younger generation through it's power. Hip-hop is not about being famous or rich; it's about the respect for the craft and the love to make sounds.

Enjoy the video and keep creating.
