THE ROOTS OF MISSOURI MAY HAVE TAUGHT JON WOLF ON HOW TO BECOME A PAINTER, BUT SAN FRANCISCO IS THE PLACE WHERE HE BECAME A PROFESSIONAL ARTIST.
WORDS BY RICK SCOTCH
Jon Wolf's pathway to the art world all started when Jon was six years old when his father began teaching him about one point perspective. He comes from a family of talented artists. His father is a painter; his mother is a craft artist, his brother is an artist and his sister has also done some water coloring artwork herself. This has all lead to him becoming a professional oil painter and illustrator. When Jon went to high school, he met one of his biggest influences, his high school art teacher named Ed Miller who instilled the foundation of who he is as a painter today. He taught Jon the value of work ethic in art and stressed the "principles and elements" of design. Jon says, "Instead of winning high school football championships, we were winning the Art State Competition every year."

All painters and all artists are going to have their own process. You find that process through hours and hours of practicing and doing it the way your going to do it. There is no wrong process."
In 1997, he visited San Francisco for a wedding. While he was out here for that wedding, he ended up selling one of his paintings. At that point, he said "I looked around at the weather and the culture of the city" and decided he needed to live there. Ten days later from that wedding, Jon became a San Francisco resident. He ended up getting a job in the tech industry while still selling paintings on the side. He said, "I worked in the tech industry for about ten years, and then I decided it was time to become a professional painter." Jon left his tech job, followed his passion for painting by devoting all his time to help his customers bring their visions to canvas.
As you will see and hear in the video and the podcast, Jon is an extremely talented painter. He knows art, he is a creative and pushes his artistic skill sets with every new painting. You will hear how he fights between being a perfectionist, his drive to be better and still being able to run his business as an artist. Furthermore, he gives some excellent advice for those who are young painters and where they should be looking at for inspiration. Jon also shares what art means to him, his painting process, and where his personal inspiration comes from.
Jon Wolf is a true artist, an incredibly nice guy and loves what he does.
