INTERVIEW WITH
KAIL LETKEMANN
WHO IS KAIL LETKEMANN? My first taste of entrepreneurship took place when I was nineteen when I started a home-based recording studio. I had been a musician/songwriter since I was fourteen, so coming out of school, I decided to put a year's savings into starting that business. At that time, I didn't KNOW that it was entrepreneurship. I didn't know there was a name for it. I just wanted to give myself a shot at following my dream. A few years went by, and I had a lot of fun but didn't make a lot of money. I gave up on the studio and fell into a slump. Two years later, I was introduced to financial services, and a gentleman who became a mentor of mine showed me the book Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. That's when I learned about entrepreneurship. Today I have a small financial services practice with the ambition of opening several locations in my city, Winnipeg, Canada (Slurpee capital of the world, though I try to avoid drinking them). WHY ARE BOOKS SO IMPORTANT TO YOU? Books are essential to me because I respect and value the wisdom of people who have done extraordinary things. Someone far more successful than me is willing to put 10, 20, 30 years of experience into a book, and I can read that book in just a few hours. That's a good investment! HOW MANY BOOKS DO YOU READ EACH YEAR? Four years ago, I read zero books. In my first year in finance, I read only four, and last year I read about a dozen. This year in 2019, I committed to reading 50 books, and I will continue that pace for years to come.

WHEN YOU ARE NOT READING, WHAT DO YOU DO FOR FUN? I still enjoy writing music, and I plan on releasing music again, starting next year. FAVORITE COCKTAIL, BEER OR BEVERAGE? I actually don't drink alcohol at all. My favorite thing to drink right now is a dark roast coffee sweetened with a bit of brown sugar and spiced with cinnamon. EARLY RISER OR NIGHT OWL? I don't consider myself an early riser. I'm slow in the morning and usually more creative at night. I'm up between 7 am and 8 am, depending on my schedule that day. KAIL'S TOP 3 BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS TO START YOUR ENTREPRENEUR JOURNEY...
Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, because without it, I wouldn't understand the sacrifice it takes to work for yourself, and why it's worth it. I've read that book a few times. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson, because it's essential to know the philosophy behind daily activities and steady effort, even when you don't see results. I think I've read that book five times. How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie, because most people are not aware that they are self-centered when they communicate, and that will never serve you in business. I've read that book twice.
