Clyde was so passionate about making his whiskey, he was locked up for eight months in federal prison for making it, yet as soon as he was out, he started everything right back up. Nothing was stopping him from his whiskey making craft. Clyde May's Straight Bourbon Whiskey comes from the Concecuh Ridge Distillery. They are mainly known for their "Alabama Style" whiskey, where they add green apples into the barrel. When you look at the Clyde May’s Straight Bourbon Whiskey nostalgic label on the bottle, you might assume that this bourbon comes from Alabama, but it was actually sourced bourbon from Kentucky. This particular whiskey was attended to be unadulterated. DETAILS: The Clyde May's Straight Bourbon Whiskey is 92 proof, aged five years, non-chill filtered, and has a transparent, medium brown appearance. NOSE: There is a sweet fruity smell, hints of strawberry, peaches and nutmeg. THE SIPS: It starts smooth, a bit fruity, then goes into a medium spicy burn with a long finish. If you're looking to hinder that burn down the throat, add a few drops of water to bring out the sweeter flavor. FINAL OPINION: I enjoyed the whiskey neat; the burn was not as intense as other whiskeys can be, and I found adding a drop or two of water to the bourbon took too much of that spice away that I ended up enjoying.
